Trigeminal Neuralgia Early Exercise Programme

We recommend consulting a musculoskeletal physiotherapist to ensure exercises are best suited to your recovery. If you are carrying out an exercise regime without consulting a healthcare professional, you do so at your own risk. If you have any concerns whilst completing these exercises, please contact a healthcare professional.

Intermediate Exercise plan

These exercises combine a simple, range of movement exercises with some more specific stretches to muscles around the neck and shoulder blade(s) that may be tight or tense. Perform these stretches 2 – 3 times per day, to the point of muscle stretch (not frank pain) and hold this stretch gently for 20-30 seconds.

Advanced Exercise plan

These advanced exercises may be useful during periods of remission to help correct any postural changes around the neck or shoulder blades. There are specific muscles located around the neck and shoulder that help provides postural stability. These exercises aim to strengthen these muscles, support your posture and reduce muscle tightness or overactivity. This programme can be performed 2 – 3 times per week and gradually progressed over time by adding more repetitions of each exercise or adding additional resistance such as resistance tubing.
