Sports Injury Assessment vs Physio assessment – what is the difference?
As sports physiotherapy specialists, we understand that sporting injuries and the unique causes of sporting injuries may require different assessments and treatment to a normal physiotherapy assessment. In our Pure Sports Clinics, we use state of the art technology to make more detailed assessments of your injury so that we can help you recover safely but expediently from your injury. Our assessments also help us to find any underlying problems that may be causing you to be injured, allowing us to develop your robustness in the long-term and reduce the likelihood of future injury.
Initial meeting in the Clinic
First you will arrive at our custom clinic designed for rehabilitating sports athletes. You will be greeted by your Physiotherapist and taken into the assessment room, so come dressed for the assessment in sports clothes.
Full History
In this private environment, you we will be able to discuss how you were injured, how and where it is hurting and what effect it is having on everyday life and sport. We will also screen your medical history to ensure we are definitely dealing with a sports injury.
Objective assessment
After the history we will move on to an examination of the injury guided by the history we have taken. The physiotherapist will look for bruising and swelling, assess the movement in your limbs and how restricted it is and use Orthopaedic tests to work out the diagnosis. Please come appropriately dressed in sports clothes that are loose fitting or bring a change of clothes. Our Physiotherapists will also use state of the art technology to measure your power output in different muscles and joints to help us gain a full picture of your injury and its causes.
Education and Treatment
At this point our Sports Physiotherapist will guide you through all that information and tell you what the injury is likely to be and whether we think we can treat it there with a timeframe for expected healing or whether you need further investigation. If it requires writing a letter to your GP for imaging or medication this can be done. If the injury can be treated straight away our Sports Physiotherapist will then discuss with you the proposed treatment plan which will involve a combination of hands-on treatment and exercises that will be taught and practiced in the gym.
Agreed plan and home exercises
At this point our Sports Physiotherapist will discuss any thing that you need to do or avoid and any modifications to your current training schedule that might be needed. You will then be provided with some rehabilitation exercises on a personalised app platform via e-mail with up to 1 year’s access, for you to complete between sessions to enhance your healing and progression.
Payment and re-booking
Finally, the Sports Physiotherapist will take payment and book you in for a follow-up treatment session where necessary. You can then get changed again, if needed, and head on out into your day.
We look forward to seeing you and taking you from pain to performance and beyond!
